Italy info
Salerno benefits from a lucky position, in the middle of two wonderful coasts, the Amalfi and Cilento coast, both so beautiful but also very different. This is the area we have concentrated on principally for sailing holiday. Both coasts are included in the MAB (Man and Biosphere) program of UNESCO.
The Amalfi coast is well known and has been for many years a popular destination for travellers from all over the world as well as for the local people. But the Cilento coast remains undiscovered. Here is how the locals describe this up and coming area:
Easy sailing area; distance – 20 to 60 miles from Salerno base; moderate costs of living and harbours; peaceful area; easy reservation possibility in harbours; short distance among harbours; anchorage possibilities in sheltered bays; variety of landscape.
Defined by one of our clients “peaceful, wild and cheap”.
But Italy, as diverse as it is, offers many other fantastic sailing destinations – we would also like to mention the island of Elba, only seven miles off the west coast of mainland Italy and Sicily on the south.
Although, these days, most of the bases have an airport nearby and one can organize a Saturday – Saturday charter easily, we highly recommend diverting to one of the extraordinary towns in Italy, at least for a day or two. Can one ever get enough of Rome, Florence or Venice?
